Tehomot

“Tehomot” showcases highly textured clusters of discarded paper and plastic, evoking a stormy seascape inspired by the Babylonian goddess Tiamat. Tiamat, a symbol of chaos and the creator of all things, is associated with the stormy sea—the embodiment of the mythological Chaos monster. The installation symbolizes water as both the source of life and its potential for destruction.

Yaniv's artistic process involves capturing patterns and fragmented images through drawings, paintings, and photographs inspired by daily encounters with water and urban surroundings, particularly along the Hudson and East Rivers.

The installation merges fragments from nature with repurposed materials, blurring the boundaries between chaos and order, reality and imagination. It serves as a reflection on impermanence and survival in the face of the climate emergency. Each layer of the installation contains hidden content, like encoded messages, inviting viewers to discover new clues upon closer examination.
